Maudie Irene Turpen Obituary

Maudie Irene (Downs) Turpen, age 100, of Evansville, IN, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Village at Hamilton Pointe, Newburgh, IN.

Irene was born October 9, 1923, in Jonesboro, AR, to Erna D. and Mary (Cooper) Downs and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a wonderful caretaker, working as a day-time Nanny in her younger years and preparing food to the elderly in her later years. She enjoyed being outside, working in her yard and tending to her flowers, shopping, and being with young people. She liked animals, especially her cats and dog, Sadie. Irene especially loved her family. She loved family get-togethers and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Loretta F. Williams and Annetta M. Putman; son, Jerry E. Johnston; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Erna and Mary Downs; husband, Ralph Turpen, who passed away in 1981; sister, Ruby Ludene Gammill; and sons-in-law, Eugene M. Williams and George Benjamin “Gib” Putman.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Jim Vessels officiating. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Mausoleum.

Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024, and from 12:00 p.m. until service time, Friday, May 31, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
