Melinda L. Pipes, age 67, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully Friday, May 30, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway surrounded by her family. She courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis for 15 years.
Melinda was born February 14, 1958, in Owensboro, KY, to Hubert and Louise (Porter) Long. She graduated from Ohio County High School in 1976. Melinda went to school to become a beautician and owned her own shop, Melinda’s Clip ‘N Curl. She was active in the Christian Church for many years. Melinda and her husband were also members of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. One of Melinda’s passions in life was cooking, which she often used to serve others. She cooked many meals before church services and catered numerous banquets, weddings, and other events. Melinda achieved her life-long dream of owning and operating a bed and breakfast with her husband, known as The Hurst House in Hartford, KY.
Melinda is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Freddie Pipes; daughters, Melea Segovia (Todd Lohse) and Elise Pipes; son, Tyler Pipes (Jessica); son-in-law, Mario Segovia; grandchildren, Addison, Miguel, and Alayna; sisters, Debbie Forrest (Jeff) and Dana Evans (Bruce); sister-in-law, Sharon James; and several nieces and nephews.
Melinda is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Louise Long; grandparents, Connie and Wilma Porter and Benjamin and Anna Mae Long; and infant sister, Carolyn Louise.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor John Cashion officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, IN.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
