Norma Frances (Sechrest) Tiek, age 93, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House, surrounded by family.
Norma was born July 24, 1931, in Lawrence County, IL, to Verus and Flossie (Nuttall) Sechrest. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Indiana State University of Evansville (USI), and she continued on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from ISUE, as well. Norma was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities in Mt. Vernon and Evansville. Norma had a passion for teaching, and she enjoyed researching and teaching Indiana History. She taught herself computers since they were up and coming during her teaching career. In 1993, she retired from the Mt. Vernon School System after teaching elementary school for over 20 years. She loved to travel with her husband, Reed, and she especially loved spending time with her family. Norma had a kind heart, a sunny disposition, and was loved by many.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Melinda “Mindy” Linton (Gary “Mike”) and Margaret “Maggie” Gustafson (Robin); sons, David Tiek (Debbie) and Bob Tiek (Robin); sister-in-law, Barbara Sechrest; grandchildren, Laralyn D’Arc (John), Steven Tiek (Allison), Michelle Leavitt (Kurt), Jason Tiek (Melissa), John Tiek (Jesicca), Tami Cefalo (Jon), Megan Palmer (Steve), Daniel Tiek (Colette), Sara Linton, Jim Linton (Angela), and Molly Gustafson; 38 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Reed Tiek, who passed away in 2012; brother, Charles Sechrest; infant grandson, Justin Michael Tiek; and grandson, Aaron Tiek.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. CST, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Bob Tiek officiating. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time CST, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
