Norma “Jean” (Clayton) Bruce, age 93, of Evansville, IN, went to be with Jesus at 12:46 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital.
Jean was born September 5, 1928, in Evansville, IN to Roscoe Clayton and Minnie (Howell) Clayton. She graduated from Central High School in 1946. Jean worked as a receptionist for UMWA Health & Retirement. Jean was saved by grace at the age of eight, and lived her life in service of her Lord and as a mother to five blessed children. She was a lifelong animal lover, taking several strays and orphans into her home through the years. She was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb as well as an accomplished pianist. Jean was the organist at Calvary Baptist Church for 30 years and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in later years.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Don E. Bruce; daughters, Sandra Wilson (John), Patti McBride, and Lisa Monk (Galen); son, Steve Bruce (Jody); brother, William Clayton (Jackie); 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Barbara Balka and her sister, JoAnn Cunningham.
Private Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave. Evansville, IN. with Pastor David Cullison officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time.
