Orlanda E. “Jay” Brothers, age 83, of Newburgh, IN, went home to be with the Lord at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Evansville Protestant Home.
Orlanda was born November 25, 1937, in Central City, KY, to Ernest Brothers and Marjorie (Capps) McConnell. He graduated from Central High School in 1956 and attended the University of Evansville. Orlanda was a tile setter for Wink Tile Company for over 20 years. Orlanda began directing the Worship Service at Grace Baptist Church when he was 15 years old. He went on to direct the music for the youth for Christ that met on Saturday evenings. He was the Minister of Music at Washington Avenue Baptist Church for 44 years, Calvary Baptist Church for 6 years and the last 12 years at Covert Avenue Baptist Church. Orlanda was a people person and loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for Gospel music, and attended many of The National Quartet Conventions.
Orlanda is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce (Clayman) Brothers; brother in-law and sister in-law Joe and Betty Schmitt; special friends, Randy and Norma Fleeger; nieces, Cate Hall, Karen Felty; nephew, James Clayman; and many other family members.
Orlanda is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marjorie; and in-laws, Reverend J. Howard and Mary Clayman.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Bro. Michael Thompson and Bro. Robert Fulkerson officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time.
