Patricia "Pat" Shoptaw Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Jean (Sowder) Shoptaw passed away quietly Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Good Samaritan Home. She was 83. She moved from Muncie to Evansville in 1975 and lived on the west side for over 25 years before moving in with her son in Newburgh. She was born on January 5, 1935 in West Virginia, one of 10 to James and Mary (Dixon) Sowder.

She married Guy L. Shoptaw on June 13, 1954 in Washington D. C. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University graduating with honors and receiving several awards. She went on to pursue her Master’s degree from Ball State as well. She retired from Henderson Jr. High after 33 years as an English teacher and Librarian. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and active in the missionary society. She was always there for her family, especially her grandchildren, and was a caring person to those around her. We will miss her.

She is survived by her two sons, James Allen Shoptaw (wife Phyllis) of Parker City, IN and Larry Neal Shoptaw (wife Cheryl) of Newburgh, IN, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and one sister Peggy Phillips of Turnersville, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Shoptaw, her five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor John Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Dugger, IN.

Friends may visit from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
