Paul Edward Merritt, age 39, of Dixon, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at his home in Kentucky.
Paul was born September 21, 1986, in Evansville, Indiana, to Daniel and Penelope (Pfingston) Merritt. Paul is 100% a miracle. As a baby, Paul was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and wasn’t expected to live very long, but he defied all the odds. He grew up and graduated from Bosse High School in 2005. After graduation, Paul worked with the Laborer’s Union for 6 years. His lung function then started to decline and in 2019, he underwent a double lung transplant, after being on the list for five days. Paul started school and became an EMT, with the intention of becoming a paramedic. Most currently, he worked with Deaconess EMS. He married his beautiful wife, Ashley, in 2016, and they have been members of Bethel Church on Lincoln Avenue. Paul has always been an avid hunter, using both the bow and shotgun. At an early age, he learned to enjoy dirt track racing with open wheel modifies. In his spare time, he put his talent of writing to good use and was the author of three different books, “The Best of Disease and Simple Ways to Improve Guided by Scripture,” “Lifelong Turbulence: Calming the Storms of Life with God, Faith, Scripture & Medicine,” and “Federal Eutopia: A Fight to Free Will.”
Paul is survived by his lovely wife, Ashley (Tevault) Merritt; his children, Kyriana Tevault , Brayden Tevault, and Jayvion Darrett; his father, Danny Merritt; his brother, Kevin Merritt; his nieces, Breanna Merritt and LaKenna Blanton.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Penny; and his dogs, Dylan and Chewy.
