Raymond Mayes Obituary

Raymond Mayes, age 68, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at home.

Raymond was born November 29, 1953, in Henderson, KY, to George Mayes and Colone (Majors) Dockery, but he was raised by his father, Voldie Guy Dockery. He was an Entrepreneur/Business Owner. Raymond owned several businesses, including River City Music Hall, Ray’s Café, Ray’s Tree Service, Ray’s Produce, and multiple other small business, including bars and arcades. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting when he was younger, and he loved all animals. If you ever needed him, you could find him at Bingo or the Casino, if he wasn’t at the fruit stand. Ray was a big family man; he had a heart of gold, and would help anyone however he could. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his children, Bobby McElvain, Danielle Lickey (Reggie), Kathy Woodard, Debbie Baker (Charlie), Raymond Mayes (Tabitha), Voldie Mayes, Tanya Mayes, Josh Sweeney (Tonya); grandchildren, Summer, Jonathan, Lauren, Jacob, Kyle, Malechi, Sarah, Raymond (Charity), Phoebe, Voldie, Micah, Miles, Diaghman, Collin, Jason, Sommer, Samantha, Kimmy, Malcolm, Matthew, Morgan, Jason, Jordan, Josh Jr., Jonathan, Chevy, Albany, Elliyana, and Benjamyn; and great grandchildren, Debra, Brooklyn, Maddie, Layla Ray, Greysen; sister, Faye; brother, Alvin Ray (Cyndi); and niece, Amanda.

Raymond is preceded in death by his loving wife of 16 years, Janet Mayes; grandchildren, Trenton Gibson, Christopher McElvain, Abby Sweeney, and Amber Sweeney; parents, Colene and Voldie Dockery; and brother, George Mayes.

Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at Bethel Hill Cemetery in Hebbardsville, KY, with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family for final expenses.
