Rev. Stephen R. “Steve” Meyer, age 79, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital.
Steve was born July 6, 1943, in Evansville, IN, to the late Carl E. Meyer, Jr. and Pauline M. (Wood) Meyer. He graduated from Central High School in 1961. Steve worked in maintenance and engineering. His favorite job was being a Locomotive Engineer, driving up and down the mountain for a cement company in Hesperia, CA. Steve had a life-time passion for guitars and collecting old and fast cars. He was a talented musician and vocalist, gracing many churches with his enthusiasm. Steve loved praising the Lord and playing music, as well as listening to gospel music and Elvis. He was a faithful member of Free Pentecostal Church, and was ordained a minister on August 10, 2014.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Linda (Rhodes) Meyer; children, John Carl Meyer (Kim), Rick Meyer, Cherri Ann Edlin (Kevin), and Dawnielle Kelly Andresen (Adam); sister, Sue Rappee (John); brothers, Jimmie L. Meyer (Linda) and David A. Meyer (Connie); grandchildren, Blake, Samantha (Chad), Misty (Alowishus), and Ricky (Michelle); 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Pauline Meyer; parents-in-law, Joe and Lois (Sailor) Rhodes; sister-in-law, Kathy Meyer; niece, Sara Rappee; and nephew, Cody Meyer.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Free Pentecostal Church, 3201 Fickas Road, Evansville with Pastor Johanna Sumner-Damme officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time. A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Free Pentecostal Church of Evansville.
