Rita J. (Luebbert) Mays, age 86, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown.
Rita was born June 9, 1940, in Henderson, KY, to Gilbert George and Eva Francile (Armstrong) Luebbert. She grew up on a farm in Robards and attended Henderson City High School. She was a member of Creekside Baptist Church. Rita was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crafting.
Rita is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, David Lee Mays; daughter, Kim Guertin (Gary); son, David Mays (Heather); sisters, Linda Luebbert and Beverly Wilson (Donald); grandchildren, Derrick Mays, John Baugh (Katie), and Russell Baugh; and great-grandchildren, Amber Joyce and Frankie.
In addition to her children, Rita is also survived by her niece whom she and David raised from a young age, Angela Hardin and her children, Thomas “TJ” Anslinger (Ashley), Kayla McElwain (Chris), and Jonathan Anslinger (McKenzie); and great-grandchildren, Bennett, Lyla, Iris, and Joseph.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gilbert E. Luebbert; granddaughter, Amber Renee Mays; and nephew whom she raised, Tony Luebbert.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Rick Porter and Pastor Ray Deeter officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Monday, June 22, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
