Dr. Robert J. Chaffin, 72, of Newburgh, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Dr. Chaffin was a history professor at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, Wis., where he taught history from 1966 until his retirement in 1990. Dr. Chaffin was a 1948 graduate of Central High School, a 1959 graduate of the University of Evansville and a 1967 graduate of Indiana University, receiving a Ph.D. Dr. Chaffin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judith Ann (McCoy) Chaffin of Newburgh, Ind.; 4 nieces, Charlene Fiedler and her husband, Mike of Newburgh, Ind., Lisa Maurer and her husband, Jim of McCutchanville, Ind., Terri Hagan and her husband, Rick of Evansville, Ind., and Linda Nelson of Evansville, Ind.; a nephew, Mike McCoy of Newburgh, Ind.; and 10 great- nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Chaffin; stepfather, Jack Allen; and a brother, Bill Chaffin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Ind., Chaplain Tim Judd officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
