Rodney Metcalf

Rodney Metcalf, age 78, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Albion, IL, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Evansville Protestant Home. Born on August 12, 1946, in Olney, IL, Rodney was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Chalcraft) Metcalf. He graduated from Edwards County High School in 1964 and proudly served in the United States Army. Rodney went on to graduate from Midwestern Broadcasting School in Chicago, IL. He was known as the “Real Rodney Russell” on WJPS 1330, Evansville’s leading rock & roll radio station. Rodney advanced his career through radio and media, later establishing his own advertising business, Metcalf Media. He, alongside fellow local radio personalities, was a well-known DJ at BeBops Nightclub in Terre Haute, IN. He was an active member of Crossroads Christian Church where he was baptized in May of 2022.

Rodney was lovingly called "GWLA" by his grandchildren, who were his greatest pride and joy. They will always remember playing rounds of Snap, story times, and watching Grandpa Bunny Bunny paint a beautiful sunset. Grandpa Rodney rarely missed any of their events. He was always in the stands, ready to rumble.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Eades (Marc); son, Eric Metcalf (Jen); his brother, Robert Metcalf (Alice); sisters-in-law, Norma Metcalf, Ann Metcalf and Candy Metcalf; and grandchildren, Austin Eades, Hannah Eades, Mackenna Simms (Nathan), and Kaylee Metcalf.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Metcalf, and his brothers, Ray Metcalf, Richard Metcalf, and Randy Metcalf.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, with Pastor Jack Arney officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Albion, IL.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
