Ronald O. Sproatt, age 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House.
Ron was born September, 8, 1934, in Evansville, Indiana, to Ferree and Lula (Hammers) Sproatt. He graduated from Bosse High School. After high school, Ron went on to enlist in the United States Army, where he served for 3 years. He was a topographical surveyor. He lived in California for several years and attended college there for a time before relocating to Evansville where he continued his education at University of Evansville. For years, Ron was a thoroughbred horse trainer while living in California, and then did some training once he came to Evansville as well. He loved his horses and made many memories with the family. He also enjoyed hunting, specifically turkeys and mushrooms; and trout fishing. Ron was also an avid golfer and enjoyed being outside when he had the chance. He was treasurer of the Civil War Round Table.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy (Gist) Sproatt; his daughters, Robin (Brian) Alvey, Melissa (Doug) Knight and Sandy (Steve) Rhodes; his grandchildren, Emily Ann Wilcher and Daniel Lee (Max) Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Brayden, Carson, and Averie; and his sister, Marti (David) Wargel.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Ferree and Lula Sproatt.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church at 5501 Washington Ave. Evansville, Indiana, with Pastor Ryan Bradney officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Mausoleum.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
Friends may visit again from 9:00 am until time of service, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
