Ruby Abney Obituary

Ruby Flowellen (Todd) Abney, age 93, of Fishers, IN, previously of Newburgh, IN, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Allisonville Meadows, Fishers, IN.

Ruby was born November 15, 1930, in Isley, KY, to Robert and Alma Jane (Hawkins) Todd who worked hard to provide for Ruby and her 11 brothers and sisters. Ruby moved to Evansville, IN, as a teenager and attended the old Central High School. She first worked as a Dental Hygienist at the State Hospital. It was there she met a handsome coworker named Dean. The two were married on July 14, 1955. Several years later, they welcomed their daughter, Gina Ki.

Ruby loved the Lord and enjoyed being a part of a local church. She was a member of Living Word Christian Church, a past member of American Baptist East, and a past member of Trinity Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday School for 17 years. She retired from Royal Child Care after 21 years of service as Head Cook. In her later years, Ruby enjoyed gardening, working word search puzzles and spending time with her sisters, church community, and the rest of her family. She was a loving wife and mother and had many good friends. Her daughter and family fondly remember her as a woman of devout faith, hard work, and a quick sense of humor.

Ruby is survived by her loving daughter, Gina Landis (Brian) of Westfield, IN; sisters, Barbara Massey and Virginia Payne, both of Evansville, IN; granddaughters, Melody Landis and Bethany Samuel (Aamod); great grandsons, Levi and Silas Samuel; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alma Jane Todd; loving husband of 66 years, Harold “Dean” Abney, who passed away in 2022; 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. CDT, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, with Reverend Chet Todd officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Evansville, IN.
