Ruth Rose (Orr) Klassy

Ruth Rose (Orr) Klassy, age 93, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Bethel Manor.

Ruth was born March 8, 1928, in Knox County, IN, to David J. and Rose Z. (Jones) Orr. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1946. Ruth was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ where she served as the first woman president of the church council. She was an avid bridge player and was in a Bridge Club with friends she has known since grade school. Ruth worked in customer service for Indiana Bell Telephone Company in her early years. She was active in the PTAs for her children’s schools. Ruth later worked as an administrative assistant for Trinity United Methodist Church and Bethel United Church of Christ. She was a board member of the Protestant Home for 25 years and was a board member for Family and Children Service. Ruth enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and dancing, and she especially loved spoiling her grandkids and taking them on adventures.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Susan Staalenburg, Teresa Collins, and Carolyn Klassy; son, Roger E. Klassy (Tammy); 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, David and Rose Orr; beloved husband, Roger Norman Klassy, who passed away in 2010; daughter, Cynthia Klassy, who passed away in 2017; and son-in-law, Joe Staalenburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Stephanie Weiner officiating.
