Sharon Byers Obituary

Sharon D. (Tosh) Byers, age 83, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at home.

Sharon was born December 13, 1940, in Crittenden County, KY, to the late John Ray and Dorothy Q. (Travis) Tosh. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1958 and went on to graduate from Lockyear Business College. She retired as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Evansville. Sharon played an active role in the Republican Party. She served as the Warrick County Republican Vice Chair for several years, was previously elected to the Ohio Township Trustee Board, never missed a parade and was famously known as the “Popcorn” lady at all Republican events in Warrick County. Sharon rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s school events, competitions and life events. She dedicated her life to Bethel Church in Evansville, including serving as Pastor R.R. Schwambach’s personal assistant for many years. She spent many years teaching Sunday school with her mother, volunteering in the church nursery, and faithfully served her God. In the last few years, Sharon found another church family with Gateway Baptist Church in Newburgh, where she continued to volunteer and service faithfully.

Those who knew Sharon knew her to be selfless, loving, caring, giving and inviting; a true Matriarch of the Family. Her family fondly remembers the silly side. Beyond all, Sharon loved her Lord and Savior. He has welcomed her home.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Sarah Redman (Ryan); sister, Laurel Mason (Jeff Jones); grandchildren, Crystal Marx (Courtney), Kyle Thomas (Samantha), Wyatt Topper (Nathan), Jackson Topper, McKayne Redman and Ryder Redman; 5 great grandchildren; son-in-law, David Thomas; brother-in-law, Larry West (Jennifer); numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 42 years, Danny Byers; daughter, Danna Thomas; son, Scott Byers; sister, Rose West; brother, John C. Tosh; and infant grandson, Drew Thomas.
