Shirley Ann (Carr) Hayford, age 88, a lifelong resident of Hatfield, IN, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House.
Shirley was born August 26, 1936, in Hatfield, IN, to Willard and Mildred (Carter) Carr. She graduated from Luce High School in 1953 and from Lockyear’s Business College in 1953. Shirley retired from Alcoa after 19+ years, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Apprentice training department. Prior to working at Alcoa Shirley worked as a Librarian at Luce Elementary School and enjoyed driving a school bus, as well. She was a lifelong member of Hatfield Methodist Church and trustee. Shirley and her husband Gene, were snowbirds and thoroughly enjoyed their yearly trips to Florida. She was an active member of the Owensboro Area Quilters’ Guild for over 40 years. Shirley also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards and Bunco and socializing with friends and family. One of her favorite projects was making Christmas tree ornaments when the family got together for the annual Thanksgiving meal at her house. Shirley was the warm, spirited heart of the family, bringing everyone together with her vibrant presence and gentle strength.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Timothy Hayford (Cindy) and Tracy Hayford (Laura); grandchildren, Nicholas Hayford (Hannah), Brandon Hayford (Roxann), Adam Hayford (Michelle), Logan Hayford (Lauren), Corey Hayford (Caroline Stuart), Melanie Webb (Garrett), and Abbey Hernandez (Julio); great grandchildren, Samuel, Charlotte, Griffin, Phoenix, Everleigh, Harper, Kimber, and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 64 years, Walter “Gene” Hayford.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Hatfield Methodist Church, 9117 W County Rd. 100 N, Richland City, IN 47634 with Nicholas Hayford officiating. Burial will be in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Hatfield Methodist Church.
