Shirley J. Marvel, age 90, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House.
Shirley was born June 20, 1936, in Evansville, IN, to George Newman, Sr. and Gertrude Newman. She graduated from Reitz High School. Shirley was a bus driver for EVSC, where she retired after 55 years. She loved spending time with her loving husband, Leon, family and friends. Shirley enjoyed going out to dinner with family and friends and vacationing. Her favorite being Hawaii. She was a beloved, involved grandmother and great-grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, Ernest “Leon” Marvel; daughters, Kelly Carrico (John) and Tammy Will (Scott); 4 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; George and Gertrude; and brothers, George Newman, Jr., Robert Newman, and Ronald Newman.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
