Stephen George Murphy, age 77, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Steve was born June 14, 1948, in Evansville, IN, to the late George Edward and Mary Margaret (Staser) Murphy. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1966, was of the Catholic faith, and was a 53-year Charter Member of the Sons of the Legion at the Kapperman Post in Newburgh. Steve made a career in Industrial Sales with Brown & Hubert, working in Counter Sales and doing Chainsaw Repair. He loved horse racing; he was a member of the Tree People at Ellis Park. Steve also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.
Steve is survived by his brother, Michael “Mick” Murphy (Lana) of Boonville, IN; sisters, Sandra Bailey (Thomas) of Newburgh, IN, Rita Torrence of Newburgh, IN, and Linda Memmer (Steve) of Evansville, IN; and nieces and nephews, Grady Murphy, Tia Murphy, Ben Bailey, Drew Bailey, Ashley Voegel, Clint Memmer, Michael Torrence, and Troy Torrence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road, Evansville, IN, with Father Martin Estrada officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, IN.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, and from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
