Stephen Frank “Steve” Moser, 76, of Evansville, IN, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital – Evansville after complications from heart surgery.
Born to Loren and LaFrance (Gander) Moser on November 2, 1946, Steve graduated in 1965 from Senior High School in Mansfied, OH. He joined the United States Army in 1967 and served as a field medic in Vietnam as Senior Specialist Sergeant and survived the Tet Offensive. He was also a medic for the Army Golden Knights Parachute Team. Steve received a Purple Heart, Soldiers Medal for Valor, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbons, and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.
After Vietnam, he returned to Evansville and joined the Vanderburgh Co. Sheriff's Department, serving for 24 years before retiring in 1999 as Detective Corporal. He served on the Sheriff's Department’s SR-22 River Patrol Boat Search and Rescue for 12 years. Under Sheriffs DeGroote and Shepherd, he was Fleet Manager and Special Project go-to guy, a.k.a. Mommoser. He was instrumental in the organization of the 800 megahertz dispatch.
Steve enjoyed 5th-wheel camping and off-roading with his wife, family, and many friends with their side-by-side Polaris. He was very proud of his children and two granddaughters, attending sporting events and encouraging them in all their endeavors.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Ginger (Steele) Moser; daughter, Stacy Landis (Paul) and granddaughter, Faith; son Michael Moser (Jill) and granddaughter, Gretchen; and sister-in-law/sister Lisa Sprinkle.
Preceding him in death were his parents; older brother, Michael Moser; and sister, Helen Watkins of Tuscaloosa, AL.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with his best friends, Ken Mitz and Charlie Wolfinger officiating and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Honor Guard Team rendering funeral honors. Private Entombment will be in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.
Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel. The visitation will begin with the American Legion Kapperman Post #44 rendering military honors at 1:00 p.m.
