Thomas E. Hammerstein

Thomas E. Hammerstein, age 69, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Thomas was born August 20, 1953, in Evansville, IN, to Joseph and Mildred (Breidenbach) Hammerstein. He graduated from North High School in 1971 and went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana State University – Evansville where he played baseball. Thomas taught Economics, Social Studies, and History at Bosse, Harrison, and North High School. He later worked for 16 years in construction for Industrial Contractors before going into business for himself for 4 years. Thomas built 7 homes himself. He enjoyed gardening and building.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Monnie (Austin) Hammerstein; stepson, Ronnie Keith Paulson, Jr.; sister, Catherine Hammerstein; brothers, Paul Hammerstein and Michael Hammerstein; grandson, Cameron Keith Paulson; nieces, Lisa Shaffer and Holly Sargent; great nieces, Valerie Shaffer and Eva Sargent; and great nephew, Joseph Shaffer.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Hammerstein; and beautiful labradors, Lucy and Millie.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2022, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Reid Schultheis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
