Venoy Ann (Kirtley) Murphy, age 96, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 5:43 p.m. on Monday August 24, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital – Evansville.
Venoy was born on July 16, 1924 in Island, KY to the late Albert and Patsy (Clark) Kirtley.
Venoy was a member of Bethel Church and their Senior Bible Class. She was a homemaker and mostly enjoyed spending time with family. Her hobbies included crocheting, needlework on plastic canvas, reading, Sudoku, Word Fill In, 1000-piece zig saw puzzles, and tomato gardening. She most enjoyed her neighbor friends coming over to play the Skip-Bo card game. Venoy’s family will always have fond memories of the delicious holiday meals she always took pride in preparing. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and always attended their school events and other activities. She was touched when her first great-grandchild was given her name, Venoy, as her middle name.
Venoy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Ray Murphy in 1997; and infant son, Jan Wayne in 1953. She was also preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Altha Jackson, Nettie Mae Whitaker, and Alberta Davis; and her 4 brothers, William, Charles, Harvey and John Kirtley.
Survivors include a son, Kenny Murphy of French Lick, a daughter, Darla Land (Brad) of Evansville; grandson, Cody Land (Lan) of Oak Harbor, WA; granddaughter, Michelle Gilbert (Bradley) of Evansville; and three great-granddaughters: Tinley and Eliza Gilbert of Evansville, and Avery Land of Oak Harbor, WA.
There will be no Visitation. Private Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 28, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Pastor Dave Schwambach officiating. Private Burial will be held at Island United Methodist Cemetery, 398 West Main Street, Island, KY.
