Vernon Stevens Obituary

Vernon Andrew Stevens, age 72, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on January 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Vernon was born on November 28, 1953, in High Bridge, Kentucky, to Vernon Stevens and Virginia Lee (Massey) Stevens. He graduated from Tates Creek Senior High School and was a faithful member of Methodist Temple Church and Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Vernon was a 45-year member of the R.M. Sirkle Masonic Lodge 954 F&AM, Lexington, KY, and the Hadi Shrine Temple.  

On July 9, 1977, Vernon married the love of his life, Jennifer (Maggard) Stevens, and together they shared 48 years of marriage filled with love, family, and devotion.

Vernon is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Stevens; his son, Vernon Andrew Stevens II, and his wife, Dawn (McBride); and his cherished grandchildren, Drew and Charlotte, who were the pride and joy of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Stevens and Virginia Lee Stevens, brothers James Stevens, Danny Stevens and sister Betty.

Vernon was a family man through and through. He loved being part of Jennifer’s large family and to her brothers and sisters, he was a loved member. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their performances and sporting events, playing golf with his son and especially traveling with his wife Jennifer. He enjoyed entertaining family and his host of friends and taking care of his beautiful property.

Vernon and Jennifer began Southern Business Machines in 1989, a local office equipment company. He loved being in sales, meeting new people and building relationships with his customers. Vernon retired in 2019 and turned his attention to local volunteer boards and caring for his grandchildren. Vernon was a key player in the Hydroplane Festivals here in Evansville, a Shriner and a member of many clubs and organizations.

A Masonic and Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel — A Family Tradition Funeral Home, located at 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana, with Pastor Randy Moore officiating.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.

Graveside Services will take place at 11:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Maggard Cemetery, 1606 Hwy 550 E. Leburn, Kentucky 41831, with Dr. Kenneth Slone officiating.
