Walter “Ray” Stephens, age 80, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Ray was born July 23, 1944, in , Bloomington, IN to Walter S. and Virginia (Connor) Stephens. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1962. Walter was the Vice President of Buying at Shoe Carnival for 16 years. He was a volunteer for Paws and fostered many dogs. Ray was a member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #20, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Indianapolis Chapter, and Hadi Shrine Temple. He was a generous friend and father that was selfless with a servants heart.
Ray is survived by his children, Tim Stephens (Karen), Debbie Martin (Marty), and Lance Stephens (Keri); siblings, Kay Whittington and Jay Potesta; grandchildren, Ashley Stinson, Mikelle (Martin) Mitchell, Daniel Martin, Kayla Martin, Claire Stephens, Noah Stephens, Anna Stephens, and Landon Stephens; great grandchildren, Chloe, Ellie, Gabe, and Reagan; and companion, Connie Littlepage.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virginia Stephens; wife, Barbara (Purcell) Stephens; and grandchild, Hunter Stephens.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with David Shipley officiating. Burial will be private in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
