Wanda May (Dillender) Grundon Hess

Wanda May (Dillender) Grundon Hess, age 83, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at Bethel Manor.

Wanda was born March 1, 1937, in Evansville, IN, to Osley S. Dillender and Bernadine (Spry) Mabern. She was a graduate of Central High School in 1955 and worked 20 years through the EVSC as a cafeteria attendant at Harwood Elementary School. She was a member of Faith Church of Nazarene, formerly known as Diamond Valley Nazarene. Wanda was very active within the church where she enjoyed serving in various ministries.

Wanda is survived by her daughters, Karen Shearer (Stephen) and Lisa Daugherty; sisters, Barbara Ulbricht and Shirley Latham (Donny); brothers, Maurice “Moe” Dillender (Judie) and Jerry Mabern (Debbie); grandchildren, Lauren Payne (Nick), Ryan Valandra (Katie), Austin Daugherty, and Shelby Daugherty (Andrew); and six great-grandchildren.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 31 years, Fred Grundon, who passed away in 1993; second husband, Lloyd “Melvin” Hess, who passed away in 2008; two sons, Kevin Grundon and Darren Grundon; brothers, James Mabern, Charles Mabern, and Gene Mabern; son-in-law, Russ Daugherty; and brother-in-law, Bob Ulbricht.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville. Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2020, in Memorial Park Cemetery.
