William Perry “Bill” Fultz, Jr., age 72, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home at 8:44 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023, with his wife of nearly 47 years (Trilby) by his side.
Bill was born September 11, 1951, in Columbus, OH, to the late William Perry Fultz, Sr. and Evelyn (Jones) Engle. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1969. Bill was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.
Bill married Trilby Annette Moore on November 26, 1976, in Greenville, MS. This marriage produced two children, William Perry Fultz III (b. 1977) and Matthew Lee Fultz (b. 1981).
An earlier marriage Bill had also produced two children, Elizabeth J. (Fultz) Sowell (b. 1972) and John Riley Fultz (b. 1974).
Bill graduated from Paul C. Hayes Technical School for printing in Grove City, Ohio and had a thriving career in the printing industry. While initially working in his home state of Ohio, he ultimately moved to the state of Mississippi where he became a 1st pressman for Mebane Packaging. In 1984, Bill took a position as a 1st pressman with Keller Crescent in Evansville, IN, where he later became a shift supervisor. He moved the family to Newburgh, IN after taking this position where he remained for the rest of his life. Later in his career, Bill worked for Royal Zenith and Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses (MLP, U.S.A.), where he installed/troubleshot million-dollar and multimillion-dollar printing presses. He became one of the best men in his industry, with business travel which took him all over the United States, Canada, and even Japan. Bill retired from the printing industry in 2001.
Bill was a “Million Miler” with American Airlines, due to his heavy business travel. This allowed him to take his family on numerous vacations throughout the United States, including several vacations to Hawaii (his favorite destination), which became some of his most treasured memories.
Bill was heavily involved with two of his sons, Perry and Matt, in the sport of baseball. He practiced with them regularly and coached various teams they played for over the years. Both sons played baseball for several all-star/travel teams along with Castle High School. He also founded the Castle Babe Ruth Booster’s Club in 1991, to help raise money for the league. This involvement with his sons in the sport of baseball brought him immense joy through the years.
Bill maintained strong ties with his numerous family members in Ohio, going back to visit them regularly during holidays. Many family poker games were played during these holidays, which he highly enjoyed. Some of his greatest times also included playing softball tournaments on the Fultz family team in the 1990’s, Family Ties, in the Columbus, OH area with his sons Perry & Matt, his brother Steve, his sisters Carol & Barbie, brother-in-law Marvin, and nephews Jeremy & Rocky.
Bill had a passion for classic cars. He restored several cars over the years and attended classic car shows all over the Tri-State area, where his vehicles won numerous awards and trophies. He had a strong alignment with the Ford Brand, with his favorite model being mid 1960’s Thunderbirds.
For those who knew Bill, he seemingly could fix or build anything. He completed many home improvement projects for family and friends during his life. When called upon, he would always help family or friends who needed help with their houses or cars; remodeling bathrooms, building decks or ramps, or crawling underneath houses to fix plumbing issues. He later built a custom home in Newburgh after retiring from the printing industry.
Bill was very much in love with his wife Trilby to the end of his life. She took great care of him for the last several years of his life when his health started to decline. He also greatly loved the town of Newburgh, which became his adopted hometown where he lived for nearly 40 years, where he will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery, which is in the “heart” of the Newburgh area.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Trilby (Moore) Fultz; daughter, Jodi Sowell (Jason); sons, William Perry Fultz, III (Amanda) and Matthew Lee Fultz (Kendra); sisters, Carol Neal (Marvin), Cheryl Stewart (John) and Barbara Baker; brothers, Steve Fultz (Debbie) and Leo “Ben” Fultz; grandchildren, Nolan, Maggie, Garrett, Livia, Eliana, Maximus and Todd; great grandchildren, Hendrix, Chase, and Phineas. He had numerous nieces and nephews, which included Jeremy, Jenny, Rocky, Rebecca, Mikey, Brian, Blair, along with others.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; son, John Fultz; and brothers, John Fultz and Thomas Fultz.
