William A. "Bill" Agnew Obituary

William A. “Bill” Agnew, age 91, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Bill was born February 13, 1933, in Zion, KY, to Decker Agnew and Juanita (Dill) Agnew Kurtz. He attended Bosse High School and Mechanic Arts, and he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Evansville College. Bill was a Veteran in the Unites States Air Force, reaching the rank of Captain before being Honorably Discharged in 1957, and he served briefly in the United States Navy. He worked various positions in Management with Whirlpool Corporation for 36 years before retiring in 1991. While serving as Vice President of the Whirlpool Danville Kentucky Division, Bill was made a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky.

Bill and his beloved wife, Jo, have been members of Crossroads Christian Church since 1990, where he served in various ministries, including Stewardship Committee, Small Group Leader, Small Group Coach, and various Ad Hoc Committees. His most satisfying ministry was serving on the Elder Board for 17 years. Bill served on the Deaconess Foundation Board for a period of time, and he served as President of the Epi-Hab Board for 11 years.

After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time at Barkley Lake, playing golf, and he especially loved spending time with his family.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Joyce (Dayvolt) Agnew; son, Pastor Scott Brown (Becky); grandchildren, Meghan Olds (Chris), Emily Heilman (Andrew), Jacob Brown (Lauren), Carter Brown, and Zachary Brown; great grandchildren, Austin Olds, Addison Olds, Wilhemina “Wila” Heilman, and Ada Heilman; niece, Jody Eades (Jack); and nephew, Larry Bristow.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Decker Agnew; mother and step-father, Juanita and Carl Kurtz; son, Bill “Chip” Agnew, Jr.; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Gene Bristow.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. CST, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Crossroads Christian Church, 10800 Lincoln Avenue, Newburgh, IN, with Pastor Jack Arney and Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery where the American Legion Kapperman Post 44 will render military rites.

Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. CST, Tuesday, August 27,  2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, and will continue from 10:00 a.m. until service time CST, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Crossroads Christian Church.
