William “Bill” Watson Kitchens, age 101, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Bell Oaks Place.
Bill was born September 11, 1923, in Dunbar, KY, to Ustus and Gusta Mae (Ruley) Kitchens. He worked as a welder before joining the United States Navy. He was a World War II Veteran who served for 3 years. He worked for the Richardson Company in Indianapolis and was a Union Organizer for the AFLCIO. Bill loved politics and was an active member of the Warrick County Democrats. He was a member of the Hadi Shrine, Kentucky Colonels, American Legion Kapperman Post 44 and was on the City Council of Bicknell, IN. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid horseracing fan.
Bill is survived by his sons, William Rhodes Kitchens (Phyllis) and Curtis Scott Kitchens; brother, Boyce Kitchens (Ila Mae); grandchildren, John (Sarah), Louis, Anne (Colby), and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Ella, Zachary, Wynston, June, and Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Ustus and Gusta Mae Kitchens; beloved wife of 74 years, Wilma Hope (McDougall) Kitchens, who passed in 2018; and siblings, Wendell Kitchens, Exie Hawes, Carl Kitchens, Garry Kitchens, and Royce Kitchens.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery, Elberfeld, IN, where the American Legion Kapperman Post 44 will render Military Rites.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
