William Junior “Bill” Wilson, age 92, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at Newburgh Healthcare.
Bill was born September 18, 1932, in Oxford, IN, to William Woodard Wilson and Esta Ella (Burton) Dilley. He graduated from Hoopeston High School in IL, and he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State University, his Master’s Degree from Vanderbilt University, and his PHD from Nova Southeastern University. William was a Veteran in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War, traveling around the Mediterranean on his ship, the “Coral Sea,” nicknamed “Ageless Warrior.” He was stationed in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece.
Bill had a passion for teaching and worked as an English Professor for Ball State and Palm Beach Community College. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and following politics, and he liked his Scotch and the occasional Martini.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Sue Siener (Ray) and Maura Wilson (Dave); sisters, Vicki Wethington and Brenda Folz; brother, Randy Dilley; grandchildren, Paulina Joy, Sebastian Wilson, and Phoenix Wilson; and 1 great grandchild.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Edith Lucille (McElhaney) Wilson; son, Kyle Wilson, who passed away in 2023; sisters, Ella Mae Warren and Mona Butts; and brother, Robert Wilson.
A Celebration of Life will held at a later date. Burial will be in Boswell Cemetery in Boswell, IN at a later date.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to the Drs, Nurses, and Staff at Newburgh Healthcare for their compassionate care of Bill over these past 6 years.
