Wilma Stevens Obituary

Wilma Lee (Madriaga) Stevens, age 86, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Brickyard-Woodlands of Newburgh, Indiana.

Wilma was born May 16, 1940, in Evansville, Indiana, to Miguel “Mike” O. and Edith (King) Madriaga. She graduated from North High School in 1958. After graduating, she became the hostess at Smitty’s Steak and Seafood restaurant on Main Street. She then married her first husband, Charles “Chuck” House in 1961. She married Ken Stevens in 1971, and spent several years raising 8 children. Wilma was also very active with her church, Methodist Temple. After the kids were raised, she spent years as a secretary at Ferro Plastics. To earn a little extra spending money after retirement, she worked at Mike Lib’s, supporting the sales of candies. Wilma was known above all, for working hard and having many friends. She loved to cook. One of her most famous recipes was her pineapple upside down cake. Wilma was very proud of her Filipino heritage and her authentic Adobo dinners. She also spent many hours playing the penny slots at the casino with her best friend, Nancy Long. And if there is one defining quality to describe Wilma, it was her open door policy: there was always room at the table and coffee on the stove.

Wilma is survived by her children, Brad House (Vickey) and Samantha House-Goodwin (Mark); her grandchildren, Madison, Ashely, and Cheyenne; her great grandchildren, Brently and Kensley; her sister, Clara Raben (Thomas); her brother, Mike Madriaga (Sandy); and 6 step children; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

Wilma is preceded in death by her first husband, Chuck House; her second husband, Kenneth W. Stevens; her parents, Mike and Edith Madriaga; and her brother, Ted Madriaga.

Wilma’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brickyard-Woodlands Memory Care Unit, your care and compassion are so greatly appreciated.
