Earl Wayne Freeman

Earl Wayne Freeman, 91, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away at 11:20 am, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Signature Healthcare.

Wayne was married to Ann Myrtle Freeman for 62 years. During their early years, Ann and Wayne were Band Parents for the Orange Glen High school Marching Band during the years their 3 sons were in high school. They accompanied the band to all of their competitions and performances.   Wayne served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from 1943 – 1946.  Wayne worked at Hawthorne Machinery in San Diego for 50 years, as Used Equipment Sales Manager. After retirement, he continued to work for Hawthorne at their Rent-It Service for 5 years.

During the 1969-1970 school year, Wayne and Ann opened their home to a foreign-exchange student from Australia, Jim McCawley.  They remained close to Jim and his family (wife Bernadine), and considered him as their son. They visited Jim in Australia. Jim and Bernadine visited the U.S. several times.

Wayne lived in Escondido, CA, for most of his life, before moving to Evansville to be near his son, Glen in July 2015.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Freeman, of California, Glen (Karen) Freeman, of Newburgh, and Jim Freeman, of CA, nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Wayne preceded in death by his parents, and his lovely wife, Ann (Hollis) Freeman, and his daughter in law, Barbara Freeman.

Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville are handling local arrangements.

There will be a Private Memorial Service in Escondido, CA, in the next few weeks. Interment will be Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, CA.
